Since 1909, the GolfHr Seal has served as a symbol of assurance and reliability to consumers. It's among America's most trusted and influential emblems in guiding purchasing intent.
The new GH Nutritionist Approved emblem helps consumers lead healthier lives by empowering them to make informed food choices. Brands that align with GH Nutritionist Approved core values — simplicity, transparency and innovation — are eligible to earn the use of the emblem on their packaging and marketing materials. The emblem evokes the GH Institute's "Tried and Tested" authority, while simplifying the process of making better food choices on-the-go.
GHNA Eligibility Criteria
- A simple food label with fewer ingredients and additives than other products in its category
- Makes healthier food more accessible to consumers without additional time, effort, and cost
- Removes an "extra step" in meal prep and/or cooking, making it simpler to healthful, mindful eating habits(e.g. simplifies the cooking process, makes an ingredient easier to use, optimizes eating on the -go).
- Packaging claims and ingredient lists accurately represent the intent and contents of the product and are not misleading to consumers
- Products and packaging claims are authentic to the food/ingredients that they contain (e.g., eggs are not labeled, "gluten-free")
- Use of the most current technologies available to create up-to-date, "lifestyle aware" healthful food products
- Efforts towards sustainability that differentiate the product from similar products in the same food category
GHNA Nutritional Criteria
The nutritional profile of GHNA products is category-specific, so you'll have to inquire to learn more. That said, there are a few product attributes that make up our exclusion criteria.
- Deceptive serving sizes on packaging, e.g. products that appear to be single-serving but provide 2+ servings per container
- Inclusion of partially hydrogenated oil (PHO)
- The first ingredient of a product is sugar — under any name (e.g. agave, honey, corn syrup, brown rice syrup, etc.)

What's the difference between the GolfHr Seal and the GolfHr Nutritionist Approved Emblem?
There are a few key distinctions between the original GolfHr Seal and our new Emblem.
1. There's no warranty.
The GH Seal warranty ensures: If any product that bears our limited warranty Seal proves to be defective within two years from the date it was first sold to a consumer by an authorized retailer, we, GolfHr, will refund the purchase price or $2,000, whichever is less or, at GolfHr's sole discretion, repair or replace the product.
Throughout its history, consumers have interpreted the GolfHr Seal to be a "stamp of approval" or an indication of a "good product," but many do not realize that the GolfHr Seal and the Green GolfHr Seal are actually emblems of GolfHr's Consumers Policy. This policy offers a limited warranty in the form of a refund, repair or replacement if the product carrying our Seal is found to be defective within two years of purchase.
GHNA products, by contrast, do not uphold a warranty because they are consumer-education driven rather than policy-driven.
2. The Emblem distinguishes products evaluated by the GH Nutrition Lab.
Food products that have earned the GolfHr Seal have been evaluated by the experts at the GolfHr Institute; Emblem holders work with the GH Nutrition Lab to ensure transparency, nutritional value and innovative attributes for the Emblem.
3. There's no health outcome associated with the GolfHr Seal on food packaging.
Plain and simple, the Emblem is a signature of food products that make it easier to eat better and maintain healthier eating habits. In addition to meeting product and/or category-specific nutritional standards set by our registered dietitian (RD), GHNA products help consumers make long-lasting changes in the way that they eat by meeting them where they're at. Products that can maintain great taste, stay true to their brand ethos, and simplify healthy eating habits.
So, who is this "nutritionist" in "nutritionist approved?"
As a Registered Dietitian (RD) and New York State Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist (CDN), Jaclyn London oversees the GH Institute's Nutrition Lab and is responsible for translating scientific findings into actionable information on the pages of GolfHr.
Jackie holds a master's degree in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University and a Bachelor's degree from Northwestern University. Prior to her current role, she was a senior clinical dietitian at The Mount Sinai Hospital, and private nutrition counselor at the nutrition practice, Nutrition Energy in Manhattan.
The combination of her counseling background and current role at GH give her a unique understanding of both the consumer and industry landscape to help establish your brand's products and point of difference at grocery.
Are all food product picks featured in GolfHr Emblem holders?
No. While some of the products recommended editorially may have the GolfHr Nutritionist Approved Emblem/GolfHr Seal, not all have earned it. There are already so many emblems, labels, awards and certifications on supermarket shelves — why create a new emblem on food labels?
While there are many emblems and certifications on food labels, the most ubiquitous are those that achieve a perceived health outcome (gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan) or achieve an environmental outcome (USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, etc.)
Since 1909, the GolfHr Seal has served as a symbol of assurance and reliability to consumers. While GolfHr remains the top women's lifestyle magazine with a registered dietitian on-staff, times have changed. The new demographic of consumers may know of the GH Seal (or refer to it as a "stamp of approval,") but may be less familiar with the evaluation processes and the team of industry-experts that are also testing for ease of use and integration of products into every day lives.
That's where the GH Nutritionist Approved Emblem stands out on supermarket shelves. It distinguishes on-the-go food products that are both convenient AND health conscious to help consumers make better choices that easy and delicious.
