Update, 4/19/2018: Supermarket chain Publix has announced that it is also recalling its 18 pack of Publix Grade A Extra Large Eggs due to the potential contamination.
On top of that, federal inspectors from the say when they reviewed the facility in North Carolina, which is responsible for the recall, they found evidence of live and dead rodents, as well as "insanitary conditions and poor employee practices."
Specifically, employees were caught touching dirty equipment, trash, their faces, and their "intergluteal cleft," a.k.a. their butts before handling eggs.
Rose Acre Farms has until April 20 to respond to the inspection, so stay tuned.
Original, 4/15/2018: Over 200 million eggs have been recalled by Rose Acre Farms because they could potentially be contaminated with Salmonella.
According to the , the Indiana company is voluntarily recalling exactly 206,749,248 eggs, which were distributed from a Hyde County, North Carolina farm. The recall, , affects consumers in the following states: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
According to the FDA, the eggs came from plant number P-1065 and have a date range of 011 through date of 102 printed on the packaging.
The affected eggs were sold under these brands:
- Coburn Farms
- Country Daybreak
- Crystal Farms
- Food Lion
- Great Value
- Sunshine Farms
- Waffle House

The recall came about after 22 illnesses were reported in states along the East Coast. Salmonella poisoning can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. It can be especially dangerous for young children, elderly people, and those with a weakened immune system.
