We're all in search of that magical mascara that gives us longer, thicker lashes without looking clumpy, but here's a beauty revelation: Your formula might not be the problem. It could be how you're applying it. If you're sick of not getting the results you want, try this tip by makeup pro Lisa Potter-Dixon from Benefit's fantastic new book, .
This simple step gives such a big payoff, so why not take 30 seconds and do it? If you're feeling perplexed by this contraption, here's our easy tutorial on how it works. Now you're ready to apply mascara!
This may seem backwards, but Potter-Dixon advises starting on the bottom — otherwise, you'll look up to do your bottom lashes and could accidentally ruin your eye makeup because your top lashes are still wet. Hold the wand straight up and down, gently applying your mascara.
Place your mascara wand at the base of your lashes, then wiggle it back and forth, giving your lashes extra body and lift. Brush on the mascara from roots to tips.
Now it's time to get those tough tiny lashes that never seem to get coated properly with traditional application. Potter-Dixon recommends turning your wand vertically, then utilizing its tip to pop mascara onto any shorter lashes. "Pay extra attention to your outer-corner lashes, as the longer these are, the bigger your eyes will look," she says.
