Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston have separated after two years of marriage, the couple has said in a statement to the The decision to split "was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year."
They are making the announcement publicly now "in an effort to reduce any further speculation. Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else's fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another."
As notes, the couple had been spending a lot of time apart over the last couple months, with Aniston in Los Angeles and Theroux in New York City. People reported earlier the marriage was okay despite the distance. "Justin often spends a few days in NYC by himself," a source told the outlet then. "When he is in NYC, Jen will catch up with friends and enjoys her own life. When Justin is in L.A., it's very special for them. They socialize together with friends. They often go out to dinner or have people over."
The decision to split came shortly after Aniston's 49th birthday on Sunday, which they spent apart. Theroux and Aniston began dating in 2011. They married in a secret ceremony on August 5, 2015, in the couple's Los Angeles home.
