Everyone Is Concerned About Rebecca's Fate in the "This Is Us" Finale

This heartbreaking theory could explain why we saw Jack as an old man in the preview.

this is us season finale

It wouldn't be an episode of This Is Us without some truly gut-wrenching twists, and the season finale likely won't disappoint.

In tomorrow's episode, Jack Pearson is back ... but much older somehow. There are a lot of theories floating around about his return: Does he just show up in Kate's dream? Did Jack fake his own death? Is it just someone caught in a moment of wishful thinking?

But there's one theory that's especially heartbreaking: What if Rebecca is dead or dying, and that's why she's seeing Jack?

Crazy theory what if something happens to Rebecca and that’s why she sees Jack? Like she almost dies? Or maybe she will die... 😩😩

I swear to y’all right now if the older Jack is just showing up because this is like a “end-of-Hamilton” thing and Jack has come to get Rebecca and she ends up dying at Kate’s wedding I don’t even know what I’ll do.

The preview of though!!! Is it showing when Rebecca dies!!?? It shows her seeing jack 😭😭😭😭

There are several hints that point to the possibility of Rebecca's demise. First, at one point — remember when at that "lucky" tree? Though it's revealed in that episode that she doesn't have brain cancer, we can't help but wonder if the storyline could resurface.

In that same episode as the cancer scare, Jack makes a pointed comment to his sons that he and Rebecca won't always be around, and it's important that the brothers learn to look out for one another.

The "Super Bowl Sunday" episode also might have contained some clues. A writer for made the clever connection that Randall's family could create a new Big Three (his two biological daughters and Deja). "If the show does decide to create a new generation of the Big Three, it would be especially poignant to have the elder Big Three come together over the loss of a parent," the writer says.

Even if it's not Rebecca, that someone will die during the season finale.

As usual, the showrunners are staying pretty tight-lipped, but producer Isaac Aptaker told that the episode is about "looking forward" for each of the characters. He also debunked at least one fan theory: "We're not doing any B.S. where Jack has secretly survived," he said.

You'll find us glued to the TV tomorrow night at 9 p.m. to find out exactly how Jack will make his return, and who could be leaving the show.
