Most people think Chip and Joanna Gaines' world revolves around transforming rundown houses in Waco, Texas into stunning homes — but that's not exactly the case. The HGTV stars announced in September that they're leaving their hit show after its current fifth season to focus more on their family, which proves that their children are their main priority. Even though the Gaines have kept their children out of the limelight for the most part, here's everything we know about their beloved kids — and the new baby they have on the way!
1. The couple currently have four children.
That includes Drake, 12, Ella Rose, 9, Duke, 8, and Emmie Kay, 7.
2. They're expecting a baby boy.
Their fifth child is on the way and (most likely) due in July. Chip announced the gender on Twitter and we're sure he's thrilled he'll soon have another guy around to help him with all his home projects.
3. The boys have "D" names and the girls have "E" names.
And, yes, the couple is currently for their future baby. You'll also notice the girls' have two names.
4. The kids are extremely grounded — despite their parents' celebrity.
The Gaines are self-described , and as a result, their children are super sweet. One example of this: "All he requested was balloons and mama's cinnamon rolls ... someone's got a birthday tomorrow!" Joanna said on about their son Duke.
5. In fact, they don't really know their parents are famous.
Part of that is because, even though Chip and Joanna are television stars, they at home. "So they don't really understand that we have a show," Joanna tole . "They don't get it."
6. But they're often seen on set.
The Gaines kids have made brief appearances on Fixer Upper over the years, but what viewers don't know is that even when they're not in the shot, they're usually nearby. Part of the reason the kids can visit set is because their parents will only film within a of Waco, allowing them to stay close at all times.
7. They aren't addicted to technology.
"It's funny, I'm a little more laid back than I thought I'd be," Joanna told . "[There are] certain things that I really care about, but I think the funny part, with Chip, is just . That's where he kinda gets a little strict. It's, 'You go play outside.'" Joanna also revealed the kids won't be getting cell phones until they go off to college. Good thing they have 60 animals on a 40-acre farm to keep them entertained.
8. Outdoor adventures are a constant in their life.
That means motor bike races in the backyard.
Or games of hide-and-go-seek in the corn fields.
9. All of the kids are Bears fans.
Both of their parents did attend Baylor University, after all. Chip graduated in 1998 and Joanna graduated in 2001, but the two didn't meet while they were in school.
10. Drake is named after the Drake Hotel.
The oldest was named for the historic hotel in New York City where his parents honeymooned. Sadly, it has since closed and been demolished. He's also the football player in the family.
11. Duke likes pickles just like his mom.
Joanna revealed she craves pickles on her ice cream when she's pregnant, and her son likes to pickle the fresh vegetables they grow in their home garden.
12. Both boys play guitar.
And are known to serenade their family on any given night, as proven here:
13. Ella Rose takes after her mom when it comes to decorating.
She's even had the opportunity to help her mom set up before the big reveals on Fixer Upper.
14. Emmie Kay is small, but tough.
"Emmie loves when he makes her wiggly tooth even wigglier. I love how tough she is and that she trusts her dad even though losing a tooth can be a bit scary," Joanna said on .
15. Both girls love to bake and sew, just like their mom.
In fact, they made this quilt together after taking sewing lessons. Impressive!
16. They're about to gain a little brother or sister.
Chip and Joanna shared the news that they'll soon be a party of seven on Instagram, and Chip, per usual, put his own humorous spin on the occasion, posing next to Joanna with his own, bigger bump. Even though the couple doesn't appear to know the gender yet, Chip swears it's a boy. We can't wait to find out if he's right!
