Rachel McAdams had a baby in April and she's breastfeeding. What that means is that she has to interrupt her day numerous times, whether she's shooting a movie or a magazine cover, to pump.
It's not often that we get to see what that looks like. And yet, for her latest cover shoot for
Girls. Girls. Girls magazine, photographer Claire Rothstein, a mom herself, snapped the new mom mid-pump, dripping in diamonds and Versace.
Rothstein wrote a lengthy caption about her and Mcadams' decision to incorporate breast pumping into the cover shot—something the photographer describes as, "So natural, so normal, [and] so amazing." Read her full comment here:
"A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture. Obviously looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about 6 months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding. We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about who’s idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more. Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of. I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great. Besides she’s wearing Versace and diamonds and is just fucking major. Big shout out to all the girls."
McAdams welcomed her son eight months ago with boyfriend and screenwriter Jamie Linden. She was extremely private about her pregnancy, and has still yet to release the name of her new son. In a November interview with the , she explained, “I want to keep [my son's] life private, even if mine isn’t. But I’m having more fun being a mom than I’ve ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me. Even the tough days, there’s something delightful about them.”
