Joy wants the world to know that she's Barbara Walters's favorite — but she especially wants Whoopi Goldberg to know it.
The View ladies got into a discussion on Wednesday's episode over whether or not they were their parents' favorite child. The topic came up after former First Lady Michelle Obama claimed on Good Morning America that .
After the other hosts declared who the favorite sibling is in their family, Joy, who is an only child, decided to bring up the show's creator and former co-host Barbara Walters.
"And by the way, I was Barbara Walters's favorite," Joy quipped, causing the audience and co-hosts to erupt in applause and laughter.
The camera quickly panned over to Whoopi, who has been on the show since 2007. Whoopi instantly shot Joy quite a look. Joy, knowing she had made a minor jab at her fellow co-host, looked a little uneasy as everyone else around her continued to laugh. Finally, after a bit of awkwardness, Whoopi spoke up and agreed with her saying, "No, no, no, probably after I came [to the show] too." She then went right into talking about her own family.
Out of all the panelists, Joy and Whoopi have been on the show the longest. Joy started as one of the original stars alongside Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, and Debbie Matenopoulos in 1997. She only missed two seasons in 2014. Whoopi has been on the panel for seven years and sat alongside Barbara until the long-time journalist decided to retire in 2014. Though Barbara and Whoopi would , it's clear that .
Though the chat was lighthearted for some, Meghan McCain couldn't help but think of how much her and her dad were alike when Whoopi asked her if she was the favorite in her family.
"I always said we spoke the same language, and he'd call and it'd almost be like we were talking in code," Meghan began. "And even when he was very sick, I had a way of communicating with him."
She continued: "It's the thing that's the hardest the most right now ... is having that person who completely understood me in every way [be gone]." She reiterated that the two were most alike but she said she didn't know if she was actually her dad's favorite. Her mom's favorite, however, is her brother Jimmy.
