Unless you were completely avoiding your TV last night (which, honestly, we don't blame you at all), you know that midterm election coverage pretty much dominated every network — including NBC. As a result, This Is Us was one of the many shows that had to be postponed until next week.
Upon discovering that This Is Us would not be releasing a new episode, fans of the show to express their frustration and utter heartbreak:
"I woke up early this morning for #ThisIsUs on Hulu and there are NO NEW EPISODES. WHY DID I EVEN WAKE UP EARLY. WHY??," one exclaimed. "Yay for election day, but i’m salty that #ThisIsUs isn’t coming on tonight," another tweeted.
In conclusion, user @feelingslwear perfectly nailed how everyone was most likely feeling last night:
While it's definitely a bummer that all the big questions from episode six will have to wait until next Tuesday, there is something viewers can watch in the meantime to get their TIU fix. What many fans don't realize is that after each episode airs, the (and their other social media channels), often release "after show" clips featuring chats with various cast members. More often than not, they even give hints about what's to come.
After episode six, Mandy Moore and writer/producer Vera Herbert sat down for one of these short videos to talk about Kate and Rebecca's evolving relationship. By the sounds of it, the dynamic between the two Pearson gals is undergoing a major makeover — a shift that will likely continue as season three progresses.
Looking back on episode six where Kate calls Rebecca to ask for her advice about Toby and Audio, Mandy said she believes a new chapter for them is beginning (while also possibly/maybe/hopefully hinting that Kate and Toby's "maybe baby" will, in fact, be a baby).
"I don't think Rebecca has ever had this degree of comfort in her relationship with Kate," Mandy expressed. "It's new territory for her. I think she's [Rebecca's] so excited about the possibility about how that might translate into her relationship as a grandmother with Kate and Toby's child."
Vera added that following the big wedding at the end of season two, Kate is now starting to "become her own woman" and enter a new stage of adulthood that helps her "see her mom in a new light."
In response to Vera's comments, Mandy said she's "curious to see more of their relationship evolve as Kate ventures forward into motherhood, hopefully, and [see] how that's going to have an effect on their relationship."
To close out the clip, the "Candy" singer relayed that she really wants Kate and Rebecca to have a major musical moment together. Vera agreed that the two really need to have a fun mother-daughter girls date (um, YES PLEASE).
Overall, the future appears to be looking up for the mother-daughter duo. Alas, fans can't too ahead of themselves — after all, a crazy turn could occur at any time and completely change everything. To make matters more uncertain, fans still don't know who "her" is or why Toby was alone and had his wedding ring off in a flash-forward scene from the season's premiere. Could any of this inevitable heartbreak have an effect on Kate and Rebecca's relationship? Let's hope not ....
