Last night, Dancing With the Stars duo Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten absolutely crushed it with their 27 out of 30 Willy Wonka-themed jazz number. Alas, because Twitter will be Twitter, not all viewers were satisfied.
The fan discontent first began when a pre-recorded video showed the real-life chemistry brewing between Alexis and Alan. As teased last week, Alexis and Alan appear to be developing feelings for one another, though neither will officially confirm they're together. Last night, however, Alexis sat Alan on the couch while the cameras were rolling and addressed "the elephant in the room," which was that she liked him. Even though Alan said he needed to sort through how he was feeling, he did say really nice things about her smile.
at home (on Twitter) seemed all 😍 after the romantic clip. There were some, however, who didn't seem to appreciate it. Their problem? A few think that Dancing With the Stars needs to generally cool it with the Alexis-Alan drama and just let them do what they came to show to do: dance.
"Those clips of Alexis and Alan were completely unnecessary. So what if they got chemistry or feelings, they're there to dance. What happens behind the scenes should be their business only," one person wrote. "I’m tired of the “showmance” they’re pushing with alexis and alan," another wrote.
On top of that, some viewers seemed to get even more upset over Alexis and Alan's actual performance. It had nothing to do with the social media star and dance pro, though: Moreover, fans noticed that the background singers messed up the "Candyman" lyrics. While the vocalists appeared to be censoring the lyrics for the audience, their timing was off during a few parts of the song. "Is it me or was that singer really off with her timing because of filtering all those words in Candyman?" a fan tweeted. "I'm sure performing many many live songs every week isn't easy, but c'mon, singers, that was rough," said another.
Unfortunately for Alexis and Alan, the pair landed in jeopardy again last night. Even though Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber were ultimately booted off last night, the two appear to be narrowly escaping elimination. Thankfully, all the competition drama and Twitter noise doesn't seem to be dampening their spirits: Both seem to be having a blast getting to dance and grow together.
"It’s so much fun to dance with someone that you have a connection with. It’s almost like time slows down," Alexis said on . "We communicate not just through our steps and our movements, but with our hearts too."
