With three simple words, Ellen Pompeo squashed our biggest Grey's Anatomy fears. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the star was asked if there will be a 16 season. Her answer: "Yes, of course." PHEW.
This comes one month after fans thought Pompeo alluded to her exit from the show in an interview with Here's the remark that threw everyone off: "I have definitely played this out for everything that I possibly could. I’ve given it 200% of my energy and my love and my time and my commitment and my dedication. I still am fighting every day to make everything surrounding this show, the quality of the show, the storytelling, I’m still fighting for everything I can, for the quality to be good, for the actors to be happy, whether that’s well received or not. I still care very much about the show and I think that it takes a lot of energy. So at some point I have to wrap it up."
Luckily for us, she clarified that her contract — yep, the one for — covers her through season 16, which mean she has at least one more year left as Meredith Grey. In fact, she says the show's record-breaking numbers () are a huge motivating factor."These numbers — there's just no end in sight with streaming. The show is so popular," she commented.

But it's the stories behind those numbers that really encourage her — and the rest of the cast — to stick around.
"A teenager was in the show, and he was gay, and he played a gay character on the show. After we had filmed the whole entire episode he said, ‘My whole life I’ve watched the show with my parents and I’ve sort of used the show to tell my parents that I’m gay,’” she said on . “‘To show my parents: It’s okay that I’m not different and there’s nothing wrong with me. Grey’s really helped my parents to understand what having a gay son meant and that it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. For my parents to now see me as an actor getting a part on this show, it's been everything.'”
With tears in her eyes, she summed up her love for Grey's in one sentence: "I gotta keep doing it man because we're touching lives and making a difference."
