Years after playing an uncle — and then a father of twins — on Full House, John Stamos is now a proud papa himself. The actor announced his good news on Instagram on Sunday with a sweet photo of his newborn son, Billy, resting on his chest.
“From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife and my son,” the 54-year-old wrote on Instagram. “Welcome Billy Stamos (named after my father) #notjustanuncleanymore #overjoyed.”
Stamos announced he was going to be a father back in December. "The look on John's face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless," his wife, model and actress Caitlin McHugh, told People magazine. "It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own but wasn't sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!”
in California in February. They had met filming an episode of Law & Order: SVU in 2011, but only started dating a few years later after reuniting on the set of Fuller House. It was McHugh who came up with the idea of trying for a baby before getting engaged. “And I said, ‘Why?’” Stamos told People. “Because you’re old,” McHugh joked.
There’s a special significance to naming his son after his late father. "I had the best father in the world, and it kills me that my parents aren't here to be a part of this," he told the magazine. "But I know it probably wouldn't be happening if they weren't up there, you know."
