Former first lady Barbara Bush on Sunday, and has decided to focus on “comfort care” in her home. Her granddaughter, Today show anchor Jenna Bush Hager, opened up about how she’s doing on Monday morning’s show.
“She’s a fighter. She's” Bush Hager said in a tearful segment on the show, referencing her grandmother’s family nickname. “We’re grateful for her, for everybody’s prayers and thoughts, and just know the world is better because she’s in it.”
Bush Hager said that former President George H.W. Bush is by her side, as always. “She’s with my grandpa, the man she’s loved for over 73 years,” she said. “They are surrounded by family, but I think the fact that they’re together and that he still says, ‘I love you Barbie’ every night is pretty remarkable.”
A statement released by the Bush family noted that she is now resting at the family’s home in Houston, and her children Neil, Marvin, and Dorothy; former President George W. Bush and former Governor Jeb Bush have been visiting and calling, according to the . Barbara Bush suffers from congestive heart failure and COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
“It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others,” the family statement noted.
