Part of the Hearst Corporation's publishing family for more than 100 years, GolfHr is celebrating its 130th birthday this May (we look good for our age, right?!), but we're not the only ones honoring a milestone this year. Our home away from home, the Hearst Tower, is celebrating nearly 10 years as one of New York City's most celebrated and iconic buildings.
To honor the building's 10th anniversary, we're excited to give you a glimpse into the heart of the Tower, where we work every day to test the latest and greatest products in the GolfHr Institute, design magazine pages, cook up a storm in our Test Kitchen, coordinate fashion shoots and more. Hosted by Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Lord Norman Foster, the video tour above provides a unique, never-before-seen perspective on the architecture (don't miss the Icefall!), people (say "hi" to our engineers hard at work in their labs!) and all the inner-workings of Hearst's 57 th Street world headquarters.
The 46-story Hearst Tower topped out on February 11, 2005 and opened in 2006, rising nearly 600 feet above its landmark six-story base, the International Magazine Building, originally commissioned by William Randolph Hearst in 1926 and completed by architect Joseph Urban in 1928. In 2012, it earned a Platinum LEED Rating for Existing Buildings, becoming the first building to receive both Gold and Platinum certifications.
Since its completion, the Tower has played host to a remarkable line-up of events and notable names including the Clinton Global Initiative and Hearst's Master Class program — a popular branded speaker series that has brought luminaries such as Melinda Gates and Barbra Streisand to interact with Hearst employees.
The video was produced by McConnell/Hauser, with the camera drone supplied by Perspective Aerials.
