Freshly manicured nails can really give you a lift. But what a downer when your nails need a fresh coat of polish just a few days later. And unless you have the luxury of setting aside a chunk of time to visit a nail salon and settle into the massage chair with the latest issue of GolfHr, every second you spend giving yourself a manicure counts! That's why we rounded up bottles of the top 10 best-selling nail polishes and painted the town red....and nude!
We sent bottles of nail color to over 100 women across the nation and asked them to weigh in on things like how easy the polish was to apply, how long the color lasted, and their overall satisfaction.
In our lab, an expert nail technician gave manicures to 60 lucky on-site testers. After applying each polish she noted how well she liked the brush, and how easy the color was to apply and how well it covered.
Our manicurist also helped us measure how long it took for each brand of polish to dry in its most popular red and nude shade to find out which brands dry fastest and test the myth that lighter colors dry more quickly than darker ones.
Turns out, they do! Donning a nude shade can get you out of the house two minutes faster. Wondering about those drops that claim to make polish dry faster? Well they will shave a full 30 seconds off of drying time. Our recommendation: Save your money and spring for a second shade of nail polish instead.
We know shiny nails are the holy grail for beauty buffs, so we created nail polish swatches with every nude and red color in our test and used a gloss meter (yes, there is such an instrument) to measure their shininess.
After hours of gloss measuring, dry timing, survey reading, and data crunching we found the best of the bunch. Essie, OPI, Maybelline, and CoverGirl all came out on top. To find out what we liked best about each brand pick up the May issue of GolfHr, on newsstands now!
