A baby born on September 25th in Magura, Bangladesh is making headlines as the real-life Benjamin Button, after the newborn appeared with the facial and body features of an elderly man.
"The baby does not look like a newborn at all," the doctor treating him . "There are prominent signs of aging such a excessive wrinkles and rough skin texture." His head and body are also covered in hair, his eyes are hollow, and his head is shrunken.
Doctors at the hospital that delivered him believe he may suffer from progeria, an extremely rare condition that causes children to age quickly. According to the , there are only 139 known children with progeria in the world, as the condition affects only one out of every 22 million people. On average, children with progeria only live up to the age of 14, and while medication can help alleviate symptoms, there is no cure.
But in spite of all of that, his parents are elated by the birth of their second child and first son, whom they consider a miracle. "We can only thank God," Biswajit Patro, the father, said. "There is no need to be unhappy about the appearance of my son. We will accept him the way he is. We are so happy to have a baby boy in the house."
