Your state might be famous for one particular dish, but that doesn't mean it's the state's "true crown jewel food." and food analytics company pooled their resources to find some of the weirdest consumption tendencies in the US. After culling through 88,000 menus and 59 million offerings on those menus, the duo created a map that depicts each state's most distinctive eating habits — and, one might guess, each state's most popular foods.
The findings might surprise you. For example, the most distinctive menu item in Pennsylvania is the hoagie (for the unfamiliar, that's a sub sandwich) not the cheesesteak. New Jersey ends up being the state to claim the cheesesteak, but only for lack of a more unique item found across its restaurant menus.
