Donna Ladd is busy. Not only is she raising two sons, but she's also the co-founder and editor of fashion blog . "I have been lucky to work for some great magazines, but when my 8-year-old (Charlie, aka 'Nacho' ) was in the toddler stage, I became more involved in the parenting and lifestyle world. This past year I had many changes: The biggest, of course, is that we adopted our now 21 month old through the foster care system. So, I juggle two boys and I am still a registered foster parent."

Still, the former magazine fashion director manages to look chic daily, thanks to a streamlined wardrobe of versatile pieces and shoes that go the distance. "Effortlessness is an essential goal in everything I wear," she says, but that's not to say she's into the slubby look. "I try not to compromise style. Sure, sweats would be fabulous, but what I wear does help keep my mood high, especially with all the balls I have to juggle as a mom."

Perhaps most important is that her feet are taken care of. " shoes elevate all my looks, but the best part is they are so easy. I saw my footwear style change after kids and finding stylish shoes that were not damaging to my feet was a major challenge. Moms can't stop the day; the right shoe is pretty important to keep moving with these kids! In fact, I've often said that my Vionics feel like butter on my feet."

We got a sneak peek into her daily routine and how she styles herself from sun-up to sunset, and it's giving us all sorts of closet goal motivation. Read on for more.

The A.M. Grind

Ladd's day-to-day starts off on full-scale momma-duty. "My daily routine consists of getting both kids up, getting them breakfast and getting us all out the door. We walk everywhere, including to school drop off. If I am taking the toddler (Mateo) to the city or appointments, I carry him in an ergo since we are getting on the subway. He is now over 30 pounds, which is why I do care about my shoes! I never want to slip or fall when I am carrying him and I can't deal with my feet hurting."

So how to dress for all that movement? Keep it simple. "Jeans and a tee has become my everyday mom style — I love loose tops, and this blouse is perfect. I can just throw it on and get a nice hit of color," she raves. "Even better, the jeans feel like sweats (they're so soft and I can move with them), which is important as Mateo is non-stop. The wide leg gives a bit of a style boost to the entire outfit."

And from the ankles down, she's totally ready to take on the day. "These t-strap sandals are painless and don't slip off like so many tend to do. The funniest thing is I forget I am wearing them!"

After her kids are taken care of, Ladd's mind turns to her career as a freelance stylist and writer. "My work life varies," she explains. "I can be near my home writing or I'll be running around to events or work meetings — my schedule is always tight. I'm always on the go because once my day is over, I focus on cooking and our family nighttime routines."

As far as her professional look is concerned, Ladd's all about pieces that are easy and wearable. "To make an outfit work-appropriate, I generally just add a blazer (or a trench if it's chillier outside) and wear the right shoes. I love flowy dresses and wide-leg pants as they pair well with all sorts of basics, even when I only have a few minutes."

And it's not just about the cut of her go-to staples, but the hue, as well. "The color of this midi dress lifts me up (even on very little sleep), and is a bit of a game changer, thanks to the pretty color that is so complimentary to my skin. Paring it with my white slip ons means I can wear shoes that elevate my look, but still feel like, you guessed it, sneakers."

Feeling Fancy

For all her family-first focus, Ladd certainly deserves a night out with her husband or her friends. "Date nights and ladies' nights out are so important to keep your sanity as a mom, and it's equally as important to look — and feel — great while you're at it!" she exclaims. (We couldn't agree more.)

But even when she gets dolled up, she still keeps her sartorial mindset clear. "Usually when we go out, I have just spent a few hours cooking and getting the kids ready for bed, so I only have minutes to get ready," she muses, "but I've been trying to avoid jeans for a night out. Instead, I'm going for long dresses that I love and jumpsuits in fun patterns and textures, which are easy to dress up or down — and it's definitely all about the shoe here to add a little height and glamour."
