It's one thing to get a messy manicure or a haircut you're not too fond of, but some trips to the salon or spa are truly the stuff horror stories are made of. Let these troubling tales caution you to always, always check the reviews and credentials of a beauty establishment before ever walking through its doors.
1. "I felt confident that everything was going well until the woman said, 'Oops!'"
At 16, felt it was time to have her "unruly" eyebrows shaped by a pro for the very first time. After hearing the woman performing the eyebrow wax yelp, "Oops!" she felt a little nervous — and then the waxer said it again while wa the other eyebrow. "The 'oops' moments had not given me a sculpted arch but they had definitely given me a transformation," she wrote. "I was totally bare in two places and had what looked like four eyebrows!" Aren't we all glad that thick eyebrows are on-trend these days and there's way less urge to wax?
2. "I needed a haircut. I got a buzzcut."
There's nothing wrong with shaving your head — if that's what you want, of course. But that's definitely not what this woman wanted when her mother took her to get a haircut as a child. "When I was about 9, my mother took me in for a haircut. My hair was (and is) very very kinky curly," she wrote. "My mom whispered to the stylist to cut it all off.
The result was hair that was a buzzcut." It took her seven years to grow her hair back to a length she liked, as is often the case with curlier locks, and left her with a fear of anyone touching her hair ever again.
3. "I caught an STD from a Brazilian wax."

Speaking of double dipping, a cautionary wa tale she heard while attending cosmetology school. "My teacher told us ... someone she knew got herpes on her face because the cosmetologist who did her wax used the same stick from a Brazilian wax on someone else before her." Yikes!
4. "They kept lying to me that 'tomorrow your skin will be better.' It never did. At home, my skin turned worse."
When one Singaporean beauty blogger headed to the salon for a routine facial, she was excited with her results — until five days later, when her skin broke out with . Before you get waxed, you should always tell your esthetician if you're using any topical treatments. Unfortunately, one woman neglected to mention her acne gel and was left with a painful mark: "My eyebrows were getting stupid and I disliked plucking, so I went in for a wax," . Despite the pro's best efforts — including a layer of cooling gel — this experience did not have a happy ending. "The wax burned the skin around my eyebrows and I had thick red rings of raw skin for at least a week."
6. "When it was finished, my hair felt like straw."
Though this woman's hair color wound up being fine, it was the texture that was the problem after she left the salon. The damage was initially hidden by her smooth blowout, but she soon realized this was misleading. "The next day I was able to see how crappy it was," . "My hair just felt fried."
7. "More than 100 clients were left with stubborn, ugly sores on their legs."
A in Santa Cruz, California, was shut down after the owner failed to properly clean her "pedicure tubs," resulting in over 100 customers contracting a bacterial infection. After the spa closed, more than 50 of the clients decided to come together to file a lawsuit against the owner.
